Lover's Leap Turnaround: We all made final adjustments to our pack, and then we we're out on the trail at last!

We arrived at basecamp midmorning on Sunday the 24th. We spent the whole day doing paperwork: getting tents, finalizing our itinerary, checking out equipment, taking pictures etc. We got up at 6 o'clock the next morning, ate an early breakfast, and frantically repacked our packs one last time. At ten, we boarded the Philmont shuttle bus and took the fifteen minute bus ride to here, Lover's Leap Turnaroud. We were without one of our adult advisors, who had had to remain at basecamp to get his blood pressure rechecked. The drizzling rain as we unloaded our packs hinted at the dreary weather coming in over the next few days. But then, after an initial lecture from our ranger on Philmont trail basics, we got on the trail and finally began our treck in truth.
