The last stretch of trail on our second day was the hardest yet, as a long, steep climp on a rugged jeep trail stood between us and camp. We made the ascent steadily, if slowly, but, as we neared the top, were forced to stop as sheer exhaustion ground one crew member to a halt. But after a quick lunch, we pushed onward, and reached camp by four. Unfortunately, because of our late arrival, we missed the events at Urraca, although we all welcomed the opportunity to get some R&R. That evening though, one of our crew members came down with an acute stomach virus, and had to be driven back to the health lodge at base camp along with his father. Furthermore, he had managed to spread a mild case to one of his tentmates, whose ability to hike also seemed unsure. The campfire that night was pretty worthless, consisting mainly of bad songs sung badly. The next morning, we again woke at six to a dark sky and incessant dripping rain. We had to redivide crew gear yet again, as we were down two members, and had one partially sick one. Again we didn't get out of camp until ninethirty this morning, and everyone's spirits were about as loaded down as our packs.
